This page describes the phone-paddle Ping Pong game. The game uses a phone as the racket and a separate screen to show the table. It does not require an account.
What the game uses
- Room information: the room and phone pairing codes, match size, screen client ID, display name (or “Player” by default), seats, ready and rematch choices, ball position, shots, faults, and score. The server uses these to connect players and run the match.
- Phone motion: after you enable motion on the phone page, it sends orientation, rotation rate, acceleration, and sample timestamps to the game server. The phone also sends its selected playing hand. The server relays each motion sample only to the game screen paired with that phone.
- Paddle and shot information: the paired screen calculates the paddle pose and each swing's power, aim, loft, spin, wing, and contact position from the phone samples. It sends these values to the server so the ball and scoring can be calculated.
- Connection details: as with any website, the server and hosting provider receive the network address and requested page or socket address needed to deliver the game. The phone pairing code appears in its page URL; browser history and hosting network logs may retain requested URLs.
What other players can see
The server sends player names, paddle poses, ball state, scores, and game events to the screens in the room and to anyone watching it. Anyone with a room code can watch or take an open seat. A quick match joins an available public room. The phone's raw motion samples go only to its paired screen, and each phone pairing code goes only to its own game screen. Treat room and phone pairing codes as invitations and share them carefully.
Browser storage and permissions
pingpong.clientIdis a random screen ID in session storage. It lets that screen reclaim its seat after reconnecting and lasts until the tab is closed or the storage is cleared.pingpong.handstores the screen's left or right hand setting in local storage until you clear it. The screen readspingpong.nameif it is already present, but this game does not currently save a name there.- The phone page keeps the pairing code in its address bar and a single-use phone reconnect token in
pingpong.phoneResumesession storage until the tab closes or storage is cleared. The token lets the phone reconnect after a brief socket loss. It does not save phone motion to browser storage. - The phone page asks for motion and orientation access when you tap Enable motion & connect. It may also request a screen wake lock. This mode does not request camera or microphone access and does not use AirPods or the Poddle Helper.
The Ping Pong mode does not set cookies or load third-party analytics. Its game scripts and libraries are served from this site.
How long it is kept
Rooms, pairing details, the latest phone samples, paddle poses, and match state are kept in the game server's process memory. When all game screens leave, the room expires after two minutes; a server restart also clears rooms. This mode does not save a match history, statistics, or account records. Browser storage remains until its stated expiry or until you clear it. The hosting provider may keep its own network logs under its own retention practices.
